Heading into 2026, I felt ready to finally approach the Bhagavad Gita. I wasn’t looking for a dense academic study; I wanted a translation that was accessible enough for me to grasp the core principles.

This edition by Atman Press delivers exactly that. The translation is refreshingly simple. It presents the text in an explainable format that breaks down deep concepts into plain English, making it perfect for a beginner.

A Monk’s Guide to A Clean House & Mind

A Monk’s Guide to A Clean House & Mind
Authors: Shoukei Matsumoto, Ian Samhammer, Kikue Tamura

amazon.com

goodreads.com

I started reading Shoukei Matsumoto’s A Monk’s Guide to A Clean House & Mind out of a simple desire to tidy my home, but what I discovered was a surprisingly therapeutic and profound little book.

While I wasn’t looking for a detailed instruction manual for cleaning, I thoroughly enjoyed the way the author, a Buddhist monk, describes the activity. Matsumoto beautifully interweaves the physical act of cleaning with the resulting internal mind state. He effectively shows how sweeping away dust and scrubbing grime is a tangible practice for clearing away mental clutter and “worldly cares.”
